Highlights from the 12th International Medis Awards Ceremony
Honoring Outstanding Medical Achievements in Central and Eastern Europe
On 12 March 2026, we celebrated the 12th International Medis Awards for Med=
ical Research=C2=A0in Ljubljana. The event was honored by the presence of D=
r. Nata=C5=A1a Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, who deliv=
ered the keynote address and emphasized:
"Every scientific article, every experiment, every study can be an importan=
t step on the long road to understanding. When these steps are combined, th=
ey create a path of learning and progress that the whole society follows. W=
e can be proud that the initiative for this important international recogni=
tion originated right here in our region. Such projects not only contribute=
to greater recognition of our country in the international scientific comm=
unity, but also provide a space for meeting, cooperation, constructive dial=
ogue and knowledge exchange."

This year, 243 applications were received from 11 countries. A total of 196=
applications met all the high criteria for nomination for the Internationa=
l Medis Awards with 18 finalists selected across nine fields. With their wo=
rk, researchers=C2=A0contribute to important innovations in medicine and ph=
armacy and thus to more effective disease management.=C2=A0
From these outstanding finalists, nine winners were selected.=C2=A0Prof. Ja=
nja Ocvirk, MD, PhD, President of the International Scientific Committee, r=
eflected:
"Behind every paper stands a team that has invested time, knowledge and pas=
sion into advancing medical science. Medical progress does not happen by ch=
ance. It is the result of years of careful work, collaboration and the cour=
age to ask new questions."
